Jörg Hanowski is a German artist and passionate glass artist, born on March 11, 1961, in Essen, who currently lives and works in North Rhine-Westphalia. His artistic home is his studio in the outer bailey of Haus Herbede in Witten, where he has been realizing his diverse ideas in glass since the 1980s.

Hanowski's path into the world of art began with a solid vocational training as a glass apparatus maker at the University of Essen. Building on this foundation, and expanded by his experience as a glassblower and neon tube glassblower, he has developed the rare ability to combine various glassmaking techniques and continually create new forms of expression. Since 1983, he has worked as a freelance artist, dedicating himself with great passion to the material of glass in all its facets. From 1989 to 1993, he also collaborated with Gerd Kruft.

Nature serves as the central source of inspiration in his work. Organic forms detach themselves from their surroundings, are reassembled, and in Hanowski's sculptures and light objects, take on a unique, vibrant form. Through the combination of kiln work, lamp work, and neon techniques, he creates objects that fascinate not only through their shape but also through light and transparency.

Hanowski has exhibited his work in numerous exhibitions in Germany and the Netherlands and has received awards at several international exhibitions and competitions. His works can be found in public collections such as the Immenhausen Glass Museum and the European Museum of Modern Glass.

With his art, Jörg Hanowski not only creates objects from glass—he invites viewers to discover the fluid connection between material, light, and nature, and to see ever-new stories unfolding within these vibrant forms.
